Reiki is a japanese technique for relaxation that also promotes healing. It’s done through touch. It’s a natural form of pain and stress relief that can be used on both people and pets. A warm and soothing energy flows through the hands and onto the client, releasing tension and promoting deep relaxation.
It is believed that a person’s energy should be free flowing and strong. When this is true, a person’s mind and body is in a positive and healthy state. When the energy weakens or is blocked, it typically leads to physical and/or emotional imbalance.
Reiki supports the body to allow for healing on a physical, mental and emotional level.
What is a session like?
A session can be between 30, 45, or 60 minutes long.
For the actual session, the recipient will rest comfortably either on a massage table or a yoga mat on their back with their shoes removed. Reiki can also be performed with the recipient sitting comfortably in a chair as well.
Unlike massage therapy, there is no manipulation of the tissue, clothing is not removed, and a recipient of Reiki is always fully clothed; loose, comfortable clothing is always best. A session can either be hands-on, where the practitioner will apply a light touch during the session, or hands-off where they will hold their hands slightly above the body.
The session begins with the Reiki practitioner placing their hands in specific positions either on the person’s head or feet. A recipient of Reiki might feel a warming sensation or a tingling during the session. Sometimes nothing is felt but complete relaxation.
The energy then will flow through the hands of the practitioner and to the recipient. This allows any energy blockages within the recipient to be opened, allowing for the body to activate its own ability to heal, promoting total relaxation, along with stress and pain relief.
Sessions are offered either in my home studio, or via online sessions using distance Reiki.
What is Distance Reiki, and does it really work?
Reiki practitioners receive a number of healing symbols during their attunement, and one of them is the distance symbol, used to send healing energy across time and space.
In person, this symbol is used to help clear blockages that stem from the past, or across large parts of the body. When practicing Reiki on someone who is not physically present, this symbol is used to connect to the recipient’s energy.
Distance Reiki is effective according to the Hermetic Law of Similarity, which states that we are all connected because we are all energy matter, and we’re all part of a larger whole.
Invoking this law allows the practitioner to link either a picture or an object to the energy field of the recipient. However, an object is not always necessary. The practitioner can simply direct their thoughts, intentions and energy to the recipient. Setting up an appointment to receive the energy helps the recipient open up to receiving the energy. Reiki can be sent to anyone, no matter where they are.
During the session, the recipient may lay down or sit somewhere comfortably. A clear mind is always suggested in order to really benefit from the session.
Reiki can be compared to the concept of praying. Prayer works in large part because we believe we can send others our love, blessings and good intentions, connecting through the power of whomever our God happens to be. Reiki works on similar principles, using universal life force energy.
I am currently located in Chicago. I am available for in person sessions. For those out of the state, I offer distance Reiki healing sessions via online platforms such as Skype, Google Hangouts, and FaceTime. Start your healing journey now and schedule your Reiki session.
